Personalised English Support from an Experienced Teacher:

I am an experienced, qualified English teacher (PGCE, QTS, University of Portsmouth) and have an honours degree in English and Greek and Roman Studies from the University of Exeter.

My sessions are built on extensive classroom experience, curriculum planning and assessment. I can ensure high-quality, personalised targets and guidance adapted to each young person's individual needs.

My aim is to support young people to achieve their best in English. This might be getting to grips with how to analyse language in a text at KS3 or building understanding of exam requirements and capabilities at KS4.

I provide a supportive experience to guide young people to overcome barriers and build their confidence in English. 

Key Stage 3 English English

Key Stage 3 is a very important part of a child’s education. It is in the three years 7-9 that children learn and develop the key skills and understanding which is crucial at GCSE. In these years pupils have access to a wide range of texts, building a wide experience of different types of writing and ideas which are invaluable for the demands of Key Stage 4.

If your child is struggling at this stage, please get in touch.

Perhaps they can’t get to grips with analysing language and writing an analytical response or with creative writing.

My Services

Key Stage 4 English

Key Stage 4 is where we build towards GCSEs. Ensuring skills are in place and exam anxiety is under control is vital.

We will focus on the exam papers - I provide lessons on both the language and the literature paper. Taking time to ensure your child is confident in the requirements of the exam is essential. We will go through both papers, focusing on particular areas or questions you child feels they need more support.

I specialise in the AQA exam board but will also support other exam boards.

Assessment and Feedback

Each booking of a package of 6 lessons or more will include an initial assessment to gauge skill levels. I will mark this and provide you with personalised feedback.

Subsequent assessment and feedback will be available on request at an additional cost.

Latin

Latin is a valuable subject to study which is rarely available to pupils attending a state school.

Much of the English language has developed from Latin and studying this language helps to build a sophisticated vocabulary. Studying Latin is a great way to understand the culture of the classical world on which much of our own culture is based.

Beginners are welcome and I also support pupils learning Latin in KS3 and KS4.

Pricing and Packages

Rates apply to all classes offered.

  • Hourly rate: £40

  • Packages: Book six lessons and receive one lesson free (total cost £200 for six weeks)

  • All bookings include an initial assessment with personalised feedback.

  • Additional assessment and personalised feedback is available at £100 per assessment.

Lessons available Monday - Thursday, 3-4pm; 4-5pm; 5-6pm (times may vary slightly to accommodate switch over between clients).
